Three letters, to Interior Dept. chief clerk D.C. Goddard (May 25, 1850), New York journalist and anthologist Rufus Wilmot Griswold (Feb. 23, 1855), and Maine physician Augustus Choate Hamlin (Mar. 27, 1856), concerning a recommendation, progress on and Congressional support for Schoolcraft's multi-volume work on U.S. Indian tribes, Hamlin's investigation of Scandinavian and Indian inscriptions for the work, and the republication of an 1821 poem by Schoolcraft.

Rufus Wilmot Griswold (February 13, 1815 – August 27, 1857) was an American anthologist, editor, poet, and critic. Born in Vermont, Griswold left home when he was 15 years old.
